Archaeology Dig October 2022

The Rackliffe House Trust will be conducting an archaeology dig on the weekends of October 8th and 15th.  The event is free, and the public is invited to attend.  Archaeologists will search for long-lost building remains detected during a ground penetrating radar and magnetometry survey in 2018. Rackliffe House is an archaeological site that is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places, and the building remains, and artifacts recorded on these weekends will enhance the understanding of how people lived and worked at Rackliffe House and the lower eastern shore of Maryland during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Attendees will watch and learn about the archaeology process and help screen soils for artifacts. Please come prepared for outdoor work, wear sturdy shoes, and bring work gloves, bug spray, sunscreen, and water. There will be 2 public sessions each weekend day, a morning session (9-12), and an afternoon session (1-4). Space is limited to 16 people per session.
